Newsletter for Week of Nov. 2

Newsletter for Week of Nov. 2

I hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween! There are several important announcements regarding our course and things coming up this week!

End of Term One

The first term will on Thursday, November 5th. Any late or missing work must be turned in before this date! Once your term grade is calculated, it is permanent. My policy is that students cannot make up any work from a previous term. Keep this in mind as it may have a major impact on your overall grade.

Quarantine Work

Due to there being quite a few students in quarantine, all work and class materials will be posted on Google Classroom. Please read all directions, notes, and PowerPoints carefully.

Even if you are in quarantine, the expectation is that you will work at the same pace as those in person. You are responsible for turning in work and keeping up with the pacing guide.

If there are any questions over assignments, you may email me or text me on Remind. If you would like to meet via Zoom to discuss an assignment, let me know and we can arrange a time!

If you happen to test positive or be ill, please let me know and we can set a plan for making up work when you recover. This will be case-by-case and dependent on where we are in the course.

Looking Ahead

English 4

This week we are finishing our first unit which focused on various sign posts to look for while reading literature. We will read and discuss The Painted Door throughout the week.

Next, we will move into our first novel, The Scar Boys, as well as focus on narrative writing. This will aid us in transitioning to writing College Admission Essays later in the course.

AP Lang/Comp

We are finishing up our first unit which focused on the basics of argument, thesis development, paragraph development, and research basics. The top priority this week is logging into AP Classroom and completing the practice assessments for Unit 1. These assessments provide a way to practice multiple-choice and free response style questions that mimic what will be on the actual AP exam.

Moving forward, we will continue to expand upon skills relating to rhetorical analysis.

Virtual AP students, we will still meet on Wednesday this week; however, the survey results are showing Monday mornings as the best option for everyone. We will most likely switch to Mondays in the future if the results do not change with more responses! I will post more info later this week!
