Week of Sept. 9 Newsletter This week we will be on an alternate schedule for MAP testing. All 9th and 10th graders will participate in MAP testing three times throughout the year (Fall, Winter, and Spring). Below is a copy of the weekly schedule: Monday, Sept. 9th - 9th and 10th Students who have English 1st, 3rd, and 5th hour will test. Morning ECS will return at regular time and will go to the auditorium until the start of 4th hour Afternoon ECS- no change 1st hour: 8:45-10:30 3rd hour: 10:35-12:20 4th hour: 12:25-1:45 (no MAP tests during this hour but reg. 4th to accommodate lunches) 5th hour: 1:50-3:35 Tuesday, Sept. 10th - 9th and 10th Students who have English 2nd, 4th, and 6th hour will test. Morning ECS will return at normal time- 9th or 10th graders who have 4th hour english will report to room 170 for testing; others will go to 4th hour class Afternoon ECS will report to the auditorium at 10:45 until lunch 2nd hour: 8:45-10:45 4th hour:

Week of Sept. 3 Newsletter Our first full week of school has gone by! Students have completed their first performance assessment: a quiz over the behavior expectations in the syllabus. Students may retake the quiz if they did not achieve the score they wanted! English 4 This week, seniors will continue with the poetry unit. We will compare/contrast and analyze various types of poetry. Emphasis will be on stylistic and structural considerations across differing typologies.  Also, if a senior student has not reached benchmarks on their ACT test, they will be required to take the KYOTE test Wednesday morning (Sept. 4). They should receive a note from guidance with more information if they need to take this test. Honors English 2 We will be adding to our analysis of tone/mood by studying diction, connotation, and denotation as well as moving deeper into visual analysis. This will be crucial for us to analyze the graphic novel Persepolis , which we will begin reading late
