Week of Aug. 26 Newsletter

Honors English 2

This week we will start discussing various aspects of our summer reading book The Road as well as the dystopian genre in general. We will also start to examine the importance of words by analyzing tone, mood, diction, denotation, and connotation. Later in the unit, we will apply these skills and more for textual and visual analysis. This will be crucial for our first reading: the graphic novel Persepolis.

Also, be sure to turn in the signed page from your syllabus as well as bring your classroom materials!

English 4

This week we will start our poetry unit! We start with poetry in order to learn and start practicing deconstructionist methodologies utilized in interpreting various meanings in literature, as well as practically any other form of art. Students will learn how to break a work of art into several little pieces of information and try to develop an interpretation that weaves the pieces back together. These strategies will continue throughout the course.

Also, don't forget to turn in the signed page from your syllabus as well as bring all of your required classroom materials!

 Picture Day

Picture day is this Friday (Aug. 30th). All students must have their picture taken for student ID's regardless if you would like to purchase photos or not. We will most likely take pictures during your English class. When I learn the schedule for that day, I will be sure to share it ASAP!
